Girl's Weekend

Because our men were off doing 'guy stuff' in Canada, the girls decided to get together for the weekend, head down to the Texas Hill Country and relax on the lake.

The first night, we all cooked dinner together in the amazing kitchen and sat out on the porch to enjoy the view. That night my mom gave us matching pajamas so we of course changed into those and with Mai Tai's in hand chatted the night away. It really was a great opportunity to get to know my sister-in-laws better and be with them away from my brothers. I sat there and thought how blessed I am to finally have 'sisters' and feel so secure knowing how much they love my brothers.

Here's a picture of our Blue Beauty, the house where we stayed. We are planning on going in together and buying the one next door - it even has a white picket fence like this one where Abbey, Gizmo and Cosmo can play!

On Saturday, after a soak in the hot tub, we took a tour of the vineyards (well, it was two, but 'tour' sounds so much better.) Our hands down favorite was Spicewood Vineyards. The wine was affordably priced, so light and refreshing and we fell in love with the owner. It was neat to actually have him explain to us the process of making the wine and get to taste it from him first hand. Not to mention getting to taste all that great wine!

After going to these wineries, I definitely want to take another weekend trip to the Hill Country with Kyle sometime this summer. We did go to a wine tasting once, but we couldn't stop laughing at our 'wine teacher' who used the word 'palate' at least 32 times during the hour. We could never taste the flavors that were so apparent to him..."You don't taste the citrus, melon, and cherries?" So we got a little discouraged thinking our palate would never meet his expectations.

I'd like to thank a few people for making this trip so memorable...

  • Ron, the unbelievable vineyard owner who we desperately need to set up with someone
  • Jason, the pannini man who has lived there for "five years" - duh!
  • Hilliary Swank, Britta's nemesis
  • Whoever decorated the house with such consistent style
  • Dodge and his wife who became our best friends in less than 2 minutes
  • Baby, our smelly four legged friend
  • Our husbands, who decided to go on a guy's trip which prompted us to get together
  • Most of all - MOM, who put the whole thing together!!!
